Robot Insect – Walking to Aid Biologists in Their Research

84175_web

Meet ‘Hector’ – he is a robotic stick insect. Hector was designed using sensors, elastic joints – that act similar to an animal’s muscle structure, and a light exoskeleton to mimic a stick insect. In the future this robot will help biologists and roboticists test their hypothesis’ about animal movement.

Before the movie American Sniper was release, NVision Inc., a company in Coppell, TX created a life-sized statue of fallen hero Chris Kyle. After the movie was release, NVision, with Taya Kyle’s permission (Chris Kyle’s widow), used a 3D printer to create a replica of the rifle he used in Iraq. Both the statue and the rifle replica were created to honor Chris and his legacy.

Karate Robot?

images

A new robot called “Ian” – is an Atlas robot (build by Boston Dynamics) that was created to be able to mimic the movements and function of robot that could possibly take over the world! It’s karate movements rival the karate kid! But Ian’s karate moves are the least impressive part of the robot’s design. It can move through rough terrain carrying items in it’s arms… it has lasers and cameras to help negotiate the changing environment. It’s also been rumored that it can get into a car and drive it away!

You Better Eat Your Fruits and Veges!

laser

According to an article published in Medical Design Technology (MDT) – Yale School of Public Health has helped create a laser device that can measure a human’s fruit and vegetable intake. This laser is painless and when it is swiped across a person’s palm, it determines the amount of carotenoids (are organic pigments that are found in the chloroplasts and chromoplasts of plants) in the skin. The higher level of caretenoids – the more fruits and vegetables consumed.
